SUBJECT: ISPM
#15 Regulations in Turkiye (Bio-security)
Dear Valued Supplier,
As you may have already aware,
FOOD and AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION of the UNITED NATIONS (FAO)
endorsed guidelines and recommendations to achieve international
harmonization of phytosanitary measures, with the aim to facilitate
trade and avoid the use of unjustifiable measures as barriers
to trade in March 2002 at Rome. These standards are known
as ISPM #15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures
no. 15)
As a member of FAO, Republic
of Turkiye will enforce ISPM #15 standards as of January 1,
2006. As a result of this new regulation all wood packaging
material (including pallets and any other wood material to
be used for transport, packaging, preserving or blocking/bracing
purposes) entering Turkiye has to be:
1) Debarked
2) Subjected to fumigation by Methyl Bromide or heat treated
3) Marked in accordance with ISPM #15
Failure to do so may result
in declining of the entire shipment into the country by Customs
Authorities and in being returned to the origin, or in some
cases, treated/destroyed at the discretion of the officials.
We therefore kindly request you to take necessary precautions
to prevent undesired consequences accordingly.
Kind regards,
Signature
